Ebenezer Brigham traveled from Massachusetts down the Ohio River and up the Mississippi to join the Wisconsin lead rush in the late 1820’s. He established his “diggings” and built a smelting furnace and a house just north of where the cave would be discovered over 100 years later.

Very nice, worthwhile visit for the entire family! We spent around 3 hours there, in the cave, gift shop and had a little pic-nic on the grounds afterward. I would recommend going there for a couple or family of all ages visit.

The tour is about an hour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the caves. The only complaint I had was she talked to us like we were children which would have been fine but we only had one child in the group.
