What is AIREX foam?

AIREX is a series of closed-cell, thermoplastic polymer foams with very good mechanical properties. The material reflects its foam properties: air bubbles (“AIR”) help expand (“EX”) volume without the penalty of added weight. Specifically, the foam products are composed of closed cells filled with 50-96% air.

Is Airex foam closed-cell?

AIREX® T90 is a closed-cell, thermoplastic and recyclable polymer foam with excellent fire, smoke & toxicity (FST) properties. It has very good mechanical properties and an extraordinary resistance to fatigue, is chemically stable and UV-resistant.

What is Corecell?

Gurit® Corecell™ M is a structural foam core material using a SAN polymer base featuring high toughness and impact resistant characteristics. It offers very reliable processing without outgassing for high quality parts.

What is PET foam core?

PET foam is a kind of closed-cell thermoplastic structural foam. The PET foam core material has certain shear and compression strength. It is used as the core material of sandwich structure and is widely used in construction, road transportation, rail transportation, aviation, wind power and other fields.

Where is PET used?

Virtually all single-serving and 2-liter bottles of carbonated soft drinks and water sold in the U.S. are made from PET. It is also popular for packaging salad dressings, peanut butter, cooking oils, mouthwash, shampoo, liquid hand soap, window cleaner, even tennis balls.

What is c70-40 Airex foam core?

DragonPlate carbon fiber C70-40 Airex foam core is a unique closed cell, cross-linked polymer foam core. This is a lightweight structural foam that has good impact strength.

How much does Airex foam weigh?

Test Material 0.25″ Carbon Fiber Airex Foam Core Material Size 6″x48″ Test Span 36″ Material Weight 0.48 Lbs./foot -0.96 Lbs. Total Load Test Weight* 20 Lbs.

Can Airex® foam be machine processed?

Machining methods for low density thermoplastic foams AIREX®R63, R82, C70.40 to C70.90, C71 and C51 can be machine processed with generally good results on all high speed wood work- ing machines and equipment. The tools and tool configurations are those common to the trade.

Will Airex core fracture laminate?

ATC is run by Thom Johannsen who used to sell Airex core in the US. You can also get Klegecell and Divinycell foam cores. As long as the core materials are greater than about 6 pound density, and the laminate is built properly they should not fracture. A core material typically fractures when the laminate is impacted or if it is poorly mainated.
